Sam has over 30 years’ experience bringing products to market in the sports arena. His background is manufacturing, and design and he is responsible for numerous products used throughout the sporting pyramid from professional athletes to grassroots participants.

He has made head protectors for several Professional Footballers which led to his work and research in concussive events leading to a partnership with a world beating EEG manufacturer.

He has developed links with Leeds Beckett University, The Rugby Football League and Cardiff Met. The Universities are researching and collecting data as well as developing the machine learning and AI modules to deliver a de-risked algorithm, allowing non-clinical staff to diagnose a concussive event.

Chris Leach

With over 25 years’ experience, I spent the first part of my working life specialising in how people interact with Digital Media. For the last 5 years, I have studied and researched the biology of human performance, specifically in the field of neuroscience, with a focus on visual perception and concussion.

Having studied interactive media development at Plymouth University’s Media Lab back in the late 90ies, I joined a large software development company specialising in cutting edge computer, video and multimedia authoring technologies. I then subsequently joined Digits Industries as Commercial Director in 1999 working on many blue-chip Learning Platforms & Digital Content projects.

Barclay Morrison III

Traumatic brain injury results in approximately 50,000 deaths and 85,000 permanently disable persons per year in the United States with an estimated primary care cost of £76 billion per year. The clinical situation is quite dire as there are no drug treatments which target the underlying pathobiology of TBI.

This profound need for improvements in the prevention and treatment of TBI is the driving force behind my research. My long term goal is to understand the consequences of mechanical forces on the most complex system of the human body, the brain, and to develop strategies to mitigate and perhaps reverse these injurious effects.

My research explores the specific cellular, molecular, and metabolic effects of injury on brain cells in response to precisely controlled biomechanical stimuli. My research program has three main focus areas:
1) Improvement of prevention strategies through development of critical biomechanical data for the living brain
2) Identification of novel treatment options by understanding the post-traumatic pathobiology in greater detail
3) Engineering new research tools to enhance studies in the first two areas

James Noble MD,MS,CPH,FAAN

Dr. Noble is a clinical neurologist, neuroepidemiologist, educator, and researcher at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, specializing in dementia and novel modifiable risk factors across the lifespan, including periodontal disease and sports-related concussion.

He is a dedicated educator and public health advocate, known for creating novel and innovative approaches to address complex problems in neurological disorders.

He is the author of the caregiver-directed book Navigating Life with Dementia (2022, Oxford University Press/American Academy of Neurology, Brain & Life series) and co-editor of Merritt’s Neurology 14th edition (Louis, Mayer, Noble; 2021, Wolters Kluwer).

Dr. Ginu Rajan

Dr. Rajan is currently the Director of Centre for Engineering Research in Intelligent Sensors and Systems (CeRISS) and also a Reader at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff.

Prior to this he was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Wollongong and a Senior Researcher at UNSW Sydney. His research and teaching expertise and interests includes optical fibre sensors and its applications in biomedical engineering, FBG interrogation systems, photonic crystal fibre sensors, polymer fibre sensors, smart structures and materials and physics of photonic devices.

He also promotes work integrated learning and entrepreneurship in undergraduate teaching.

Cristian Rodriguez Rivero

My research is in data science, neural engineering, computational intelligence, (Bayesian) machine learning in stochastic control, optimization, time series forecasting, and cognitive dynamic control for non-linear processes with constraints.
My work focuses on developing automated machine-learning approaches to model data using statistical learning theory and analyzing these models for system identification and forecasting for applications in engineering and biomedical sciences.
